Should the den and acidchat merge?
Well I have decided I wont be shutting down the den. There is too much content, and too much good stuff to just let it all disappear, even if the
usage is less.
But I am thinking more and more about merging these two sites. Basically this is how it would look after:
The homepage spicylemons.com would be removed. A new homepage would be created on acidchat.net. Some of the content would get migrated and refreshed
(for example I would like to redo the paste bin, and move it). Some of the content would get removed (the podcast would get archived and only be
accessible via a thread in the forums).
The forums would maintain the same look and feel they have now. The only difference is the header would be replaced with one that says acidchat (and
I have not even decided if I should change the design of it). The negative theme would also be updated, but the original bigbudden theme would remain
and maintain the old header image.
The #bigbudden chatroom would be shut down, and instead we would all use the existing #acidpool room.
I would be willing to consider long standing den members for oper rights, to help administer the IRC network (I would love to get more good opers). I
would help train on how you can do things there.
If you have any questions about how any other aspects would change, please ask.
Disadvantages I see:
* the site/community could be losing some of it's identity and heritage
* we would loose some google ranking, and it would thus take time to get reindexed properly
Advantages:
* It would be slightly cheaper, I would eventually stop renewing the spicylemons.com and den.spicylemons.com domains and instead just use the
acidchat.net name.
* It would be easier to maintain, as I would only have to watch one site
* I think that a revamp of the site would encourage me (and hopefully others) to get more excited about something fresh and different....and thus
would again want to come in more freqently
I have also considered moving the den and acidchat under a new name. This is mostly just because I only own acidchat.net and not acidchat.com ....do
you guys think people would be confused by not owning the .com address for a website? It works fine for an IRC network, but I have never tried it on
a website. What would you think if both acidchat and the den changed under a new name (like spicylemons or something new, recommendations?)

I think that if they merge it should be under a completely new name.
You can't mess with this steez. |
