New computer build

Hi!

Just thought i would post my new Christmas build I am waiting on.
Have just gotten my CPU and RAM, now waiting for motherboard and cpu Cooler to come in later this week (hopefully)

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0016.jpg (in case the IMG dont work)

Originally i did not get the motherboard i wanted.
I have been waiting for the computer market to go down over December,
and i seemed to have purchased all my gear, when all prices where at an all time low.
Just the next day, the cpu and mems had gone up, and have now gone up 3 times.
So my parts are already worth 4-5 euros more total yay!

So they all ran out of Gigabytes GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
Which i mostly favored for the excess SATA3Gb/USB2 ports, plus dual gigabit Ethernet.
It was one of the better motherboards out there in performance as well.

But i had to settle on a Crosshair III Formula.
Which is also a very nice card, for the same price.
Lacks the dual Ethernet, and only have 5 SATA ports and one eSATA.

Does however come with the add on sound card X-Fi, that has noise reduction and HD sound acceleration etc.
And something I am extra happy for, as is the purpose of this build.
A little monitor that reports temps, errors, and ability to clock on the fly from it.
Which will come in handy as im looking forward to seeing how far i can take my new shiny
Phenom II 965BE (C3 stepping 125W model of course) with a pair of Kingston DDR3 1600Mhz 1.65V CL8 (2x2Gb)

Reaching 4Ghz on air alone on this one seems to be easy.
With an average OC of 5025Mhz, from its stock 3.4Ghz (info taken from HWBot.org)

So a grand total of 16,000Mhz sounds very awesome, as i remember my old 12Mhz 286 back in the day, that i
played Commander Keen on.

Will try to see the maximum Clock for this particular chip, hoping to reach at least 4.2Ghz before any
uncontrollable temperature increase.

I will go with the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme Rev.C for cooling, and hoping it will be enough.
I bought it after reading alot of reviews, and i managed to find it here in the stores, and im always trying
to make my computer as silent as possible.

Other specs for the machine is my older parts:
600W PSU
Club3D 4870 1Gb (830/960Mhz)
1Tb Samsung F3 hard drive (HD103SJ)

So far i managed to get the CPU,RAM and motherboard for 380

Will be exited when i get to play with it all, Christmas will come a bit early.

Hehe yeah, slowly getting there.
Just got the cpu cooler, but motherboard is still missing, should have arrived last week.
Tiny bit of a problem with the cpu cooler, its way to big for my case (160mm)
So I am going to have to do some changes to the case, so it will stick out trough a hole on the side.
Before i probably purchase a new case (Thinking the cheap good Antec 300)

After Christmas Continuation ( yeah we celebrate on 24th :)

So finally got the motherboard, so i could start the assembly.
Even the box for the card was impressively overkill.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0333.jpg
Like a tiny display monter.

Came with 5 sata cables and the various i/o ports.
And the SupremeFx X-Fi sound card.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0341.jpg

Now carefully unboxing the cpu, and putting it all in place.
Read on the net, how the new cpu might not yet be supported by the motherboard.
So did not think i would get it up running.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0347.jpg

But cpu in place and now for the new cooler, the massive cooler.
Changing out the back plate to the one that came with the cooler was needed, as it was 2mm higher.
Made the whole motherboard get crooked, as i tightened the screws too tight on the original back plate. Whoops

But got it all in place, and its actually not as heavy as i thought it would be.
Motherboard will have no problem holding it up.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0362.jpg

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0379.jpg
Then all into the case, and the cooler stands out about 2Cm to the side too much. Will just leave it like this for now.

Now for the nervous moment of pressing the start button.
Never had a computer boot up properly without some kind of problem after assembly.
It all lights up with tons of LEDs and no error beeps so far.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0389.jpg
As quiet as my old parts id say.

To my surprise:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/IMG_0391.jpg

It booted, with no error, fuck yes.
Its a first for me, so now for some clocking.

It started getting unstable closer to 4Ghz, upped the voltage but it had no effect. Might be the HT link that needs some more juice.
But I haven't studied all the settings in the bios yet, so will tackle it later.

Will settle for 3856.4Mhz per core for now.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2477884/cpuz_1.jpg

The cooler seems to be working fine tough, the cpu temp didn't even budge even with higher voltage. NB SB got a bit hot tough, up in 55C.
But with the case open i don't get the best airflow.
